Gilbert van Asselt, Trademark Attorney: "As early as 1984 I started working for a trademark office, though not as a trademark attorney. Soon I became interested in the profession of trademark attorney, but it took some years before I was able to work as one. In 2002 I started working as a trademark attorney for a trademark office in Hilversum, where I was given the opportunity to build and lead my own trademark practice. This practice was adopted by Trademark Office Bouma. My work, job and responsibilities however stayed the same.

Trademarks are a vital part of our society. Trademark laws enable us to properly solve and regulate the violation of trademarks. That is, if companies hire a trademark attorney to advise on a ‘distinctive trademark’ or a moment of registration, but certainly for research on older trademarks as well.

The world of trademarks has a lot in common with other branches, causing issues and contacts to be varied. This makes it a challenge to design the right strategy every time, together with the client."
